Active for six years and representing stakeholders within the supply chain, the Belgian Alliance for Sustainable Palm oil (BASP) is taking the lead in gathering data on the progressive use of sustainable palm oil and guiding the transformation towards sustainability on the Belgian market.

TST – Indonesia arrests executives of palm oil firms in bribery probe

The people are accused of bribing parliamentarians to avoid an investigation into Binasawit’s plantation permits and palm processing waste near Sembuluh lake in the Borneo island, Dy Chief Situmorang said.

Golden Agri, in a statement following the arrest, said: “The company will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation and hopes that the issues can be resolved as quickly as possible”.

IUCN – Saying ‘no’ to palm oil would likely displace, not halt biodiversity loss

“Palm oil is decimating South East Asia’s rich diversity of species as it eats into swathes of tropical forest,” said report lead author and Chair of IUCN’s Oil Palm Task Force, Erik Meijaard. “But if it is replaced by much larger areas of rapeseed, soy or sunflower fields, different natural ecosystems and species may suffer. To put a stop to the destruction we must work towards deforestation-free palm oil, and make sure all attempts to limit palm oil use are informed by solid scientific understanding of the consequences.”
